pacific seacraft
The Pacific Seacraft company has been a pleasure to work with. Although Indigo is a used boat, we took a trip to visit Brian's aunt in New Bern, NC in 2009 and stopped at the factory for their annual seminar. We listened to some very good speakers on safety and maintenance, met the owner Steve Brodie, toured the factory and discovered this little company was the kind everyone should aspire to own or work for.
Steve Brodie and his father purchased the company after the former owners' bankruptcy, easily convincing most of the talented craftsman to go with him from California to small-town North Carolina to continue working for "their company". They followed him and his dream, piling their families and belongings into cars for the cross country move, and set up shop in a run down old factory in little Washington, NC. Their fascinating story of struggles and triumphs and integrity will hopefully will one day be written by the owner.
Many boat manufacturers during these days of high taxes, lower discretionary income, and onerous red tape & regulations are struggling. But while others have gone out of business, they have discovered the market of used boats. Now Pacific Seacraft has become the "go to" re-fit factory that will fix your older Pacific Seacraft, or any other boat for that matter. Since beginning the business of fixing what they (or the former owner) had previously constructed, they have determined a litany of improvements since implemented as permanent design changes or procedural alterations for new boats.
In my mind, this concerted effort to keep evolving makes them a superior manufacturer. Those who take their product, break it down, see what can make it better/easier to work with, and actually implement changes, is someone I want to buy from/ work with.
From a personal standpoint we were impressed with the owners, the staff and their customer service. We have since purchased new foam cut to the size of the original cushion covers for the v-berth after an accident with the holding tank cap unscrewing "just enough" to cause some very smelly damage. We also bought brand new chainplates, (I am proactively changing ours out since the boat is getting close to 20 years old) and a new engine exhaust elbow (which I found out is NOT a standard part from Yanmar). I decided I could not trust our local marina facility to manufacture these last two items and am very happy with my purchases.
